Pelican’s Flange Facing machine is used to machine circular surfaces such as flanges, bearing seats, mounting pads, crown rings, etc. They can be used on fabricated / weld built up / worn out / pre machined surfaces. They are equipped with milling cutters or single point tools and special grinding tools also can be attached in case required. There are three design types ; I.D. Clamped, O.D. Mounted and Single Frame design. Circular surfaces upto 28 meters in diameter can be machined by Pelican’s Portable Flange Facing Machines.
The various types of Circular Flange Facing Machine are as follows:-
Pelican’s I.D. Clamped Flange Facing Machine is a portable large diameter flange facer with a capacity to currently machine 1.5 metres to 12 metres flange diameter. The capacity can be altered to machine flanges from 1 metre to 28 metres in diameter.
As this machine was predominantly designed and made to machine slew bearing support flanges of large diameters, like the ones in Bucket Wheel Excavators and other large slewing structures, its primary objective is to produce a flat circular surface. It has been able to achieve flatness accuracies as much as 0.06 mm (60 microns) on the entire flange diameter of 5 meters.
Being equipped with a state of the art automation system and a host of high accuracy sensors enables it to deliver unmatched machining capabilities. The real time display of data of the machine performance and onboard computers help maintain the desired level of accuracy. The same sensors and computers prevent any untoward incidents by sounding alarms and also an auto stop function.
Despite the fact this machine is used to machine large and very large diameter flanges, in order to be portable and easy to use, it is designed to be transported in parts and then assembled on site. This lets us machine any job at any location. The machine can be set true to the level of earth or to the level of the job to be machined.
With appreciably higher material removal rates and being very easy to setup, the average total time taken from setup to finish machining is generally 30 hours or lesser.
The O.D. Mounted flange facing machine, as the name suggests has the mounting fixtures on the outside periphery of the job. It can be mounted in any orientation as the job may require, be it Vertical, Horizontal or even inclined. It is generally used with a milling cutter but a Single Point tool also can be accommodated upto certain diameters. This machine requires lesser setup time compared to the I.D. clamped and is generally used for smaller diameter jobs.
The machine mainly consists of a Center Hub, Tool Arm, Spider Arms and Support stools. The Tool arm is equipped with a Milling Cutter or a Single Point tool as is the requirement of the job. The Center Hub is fixed and the Tool arm rotates and carries out the machining operations. The Center Hub attached with the Spider Arms is placed on the support stool and the support stools and the whole assembly can be adjusted in X-Y-Z axis to align the machine. The alignment can be True to Job or True to Earth as desired.
As are all our machines, this machine too is portable and can be sent to any site in parts. The machine has a modular design whereby a single machine can be used for various sizes of the job.
This model can be used for I.D. as well as O.D. mounting. The single frame design means there is absolutely no assembly of the machine required and you can directly Pick the machine from the crate, Mount it and Start machining.
The design ensures it is a very lightweight and compact machine but yet a very versatile and rugged machine. These design features help undertake machining jobs in confined spaces. The maximum machining diameter possible with it is 1750 mm.
The single frame design makes it the quickest flange facer in terms of setup time. It generally is equipped with a single point tool but an End Mill cutter can also be used when the machining diameter is more than 500 mm.
